The 83 years old comedian Bill Cosby, who was renowned for his comedy and usually known as the “America’s Dad,” has been denied parole. It happened after he declined to take part in a therapy program exclusively for sexual predators.
Cosby was sentenced in 2018 after being found guilty of rapping and drugging a former friend named Andrea Constand. He committed this crime in 2004 at her home near Philadelphia.
After serving for around three years, he became eligible in September for parole. However, on 11th May, his request was processed and then got rejected due to the aforementioned reason.
He created the issue himself. If it was not the case, he might have got a less severe treatment, such as being house arrest due to old age and blindness.
Cosby’s spokesperson told NBC News that his refusal was expected.
In a statement, Andrew Wyatt said that “The news that Actor and Comedian Bill Cosby’s parole has been ‘denied’ by the Pennsylvania State Parole Board is not a surprise to Mr. Cosby, his family, his friends and/or his legal team”.
He further stated that “It was brought to our attention by Mr. Cosby that over the past months, members of the PA State Parole Board had met with him and emphatically stated, ‘if he did not participate in SVP courses that his parole would be denied”.
In addition to this, Andrew Wyatt said that “Mr. Cosby has vehemently proclaimed his innocence and continues to deny all allegations made against him, as being false, without the sheer evidence of any proof.”
The former comedian is serving his sentence in Philadelphia suburb Phoenix at the State Correctional Institution.
According to Laura Treaster, the spokeswoman for the state parole board, the parole for Cosby would be considered in the future after he completes the violent sexual predator therapy.
In addition to this, he must also be considered for parole by the state Department of Corrections and should have a clear and clean record of conduct while being imprisoned or confined.
As per the spokesman of Cosby, the situation for the older man is good inside the prison, and he is still hopeful regardless of his deteriorating health and old age.
Moreover, regarding the condition of Cosby, his spokesman said that “He’s cool as a cucumber.”
He also said that Cosby is waiting for his decision from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court regarding this legal team’s appeal.
