Take a Look at the Brutal & Bizarre Happenings in the UFC When It First Started

The UFC is pretty mainstream these days but a lot of fans weren’t actually around when it first started. Back then, the sport was much more violent and the version that you see on today’s television is watered down in comparison. Back then, weight classes didn’t exist and it was more the style that matched one fighter with another. For example, you might see a 500lb sumo wrestler against a 180lb karate black belt. For this reason, you had to be crafty and disciplined with your moves.

You can see why the rules were changed and you can also see why people had to adapt the sport in order to keep people somewhat safe, but either way, the version back then was far more brutal and it is certainly more aggressive when you look at the fighters who are participating in today’s UFC.
